Creating the Atmosphere

Love they say is in the air, you can feel it in the atmosphere. So whatever feelings you want your guests to leave with, it is up to you to create it through your colour scheme and decor, and of course the guests themselves have a role to play but be ready to guide them by your example and throwing a few surprises here and there is guaranteed to spice things up and make your event a very memorable one.

Colours

Choose bright shades of red, orange and yellow to up your event’s ante or cool it all down with a mixture of hues of blues. If you’re undecided or you want to remain neutral, try black, white and grey. For a softer effect go for pastels of pink and green and if you can’t get enough of your favourite colour, experiment with it in different shades. Your colours have a way of increasing or depleting energy levels, so choose accordingly.

Decor

Your decor covers everything from chair covers to floral arrangements. It should incorporate as well as complement your colour scheme. Silver ware and glass create a classy and elegant affair while copper ware and ceramic work well together to give an earthen feel to things. Your decor can be minimal to convey simplicity or can be very complex paying attention to a multitude of intricate minute details.

People

Your guests will go with the flow, so it is important that all the aspects of your event don’t conflict with each other. If the party’s theme is red hot on fire, the music needs to match up, you can even go a step further serving spicy food and getting your guests to come in their hottest outfits. By the time you start busting a few moves, you can be rest assured that your event would literally blow the rooftop off.

Surprise!

When it comes to surprises, they can be really good or awfully bad, so be careful. Study your crowd and the atmosphere you have created before you unleash your surprise on them. It should be something that people would not naturally expect at your event (surprise factor) but would be glad to be a part of (acceptance factor). It could be revealing some nostalgic pictures and items, belting out a specially composed rap for the event, or setting your audience up to a few tricks and games.

Even if you are working with a budget or have run out of ideas on how to reinvent your ideas, one great way you can still influence the atmosphere is to inject your personality into the whole event, stay fully plugged and involved and lead your crowd by example, after a while hopefully people will forget your colours, decor and themselves and follow the leader with reckless abandon!
